Bike Shop Owners! We have a new feature we call the Rating Badge. The Rating Badge is a small graphic image (150x58 pixels) that displays your shop's rating and number of reviews on Mtbr.com. You can put it on your website and it allows all your customers to review your shop. It also gives new customers the reviews and validation they need to buy from you. Just cut and paste the HTML code found in the Rating Badge section of your review page. More details about the Rating Badge here»
Hardcore Bikes

Founded in 1989 by Jim Moulden, Hardcore Bikes was the original mountain bike shop in Edmonton. Offering hard-to-find specialty mountain bike parts and hand-built frames Hardcore was something different from the beginning. Started in a tiny shop in an alley that had a previous life as a sausage factory, the Shop quickly grew as mountain bikes took off in popularity. In 1992 we moved to a new (really old) building down the street and we have been here ever since.

Jim retired from frame building in 2003 but the Shop still carries on the tradition of offering something different from the big stores. You can walk into Hardcore and still see the same faces that were there in the beginning. The people who work here ride and race and believe that cycling is more than a business, it is a lifestyle. Most of our customers we know by name and we treat our customers the same way we treat our friends. We do not have the big store’s budgets to advertise and instead rely on word of mouth to let people know about us. In a world of box stores, come and discover that personalized, down-to-earth service does still exist.

Shop Summary:
Never been, but if I'm ever in Edmonton...

Customer Service:
The service was fantastic! I found out about this store because it was on the IBIS website and decided to do some further investigating. Mark was quick to answer any questions I had about the Mojo and when he didn't have the answer, he called Ibis directly and found out. Since I live a few thousand kilometers away(Ontario) and have never been to the store, I was going solely on reviews and phone calls. They were friendly, quick and made my buying experience reassuring. They did a sweet job with the build and shipped it out to me within a day of receiving it from Ibis. I would recommend the guys to anyone and don't worry if you haven't been to the store, you're in good hands. Great job Mark and Thanks.

Other Comments:
I saved approx $300 by paying for PST and no GST since it was bought in Alberta. If you're Canadian, want quality service and some extra change in your pocket for accessories, this may be the way to go, eh!

Shop Summary:
A small shop with a variety of bikes, mostly mountain, excellent mechanics, OCD attention to detail and very personal service. This is an owner operated business so every sale, no matter the level gets more attention than one usually expects.

Customer Service:
They are very knowledgeable with all bike disciplines. They always strive to give you the best advice based on personal and customer experience and if they don't know something they'll admit it and leave it up to you.

Other Comments:
This place has gone from a hole in the wall to a nicely sized small shop. What makes this special is that you consider that over the same time period multiple shops with better lines and deeper pockets all went under.

I have bought 3 bikes from Hardcore.

Shop Summary:
A small shop that caters to mountain-bikers but also does cyclocross and road. These guys ride and really understand bikes from DH to XC and everything in between.

Customer Service:
I do most of my own wrenching so when I take my bike in it's because I don't have a special tool or it's beyond my capability. I absolutely trust Barry to work on my bike, and I don't say that about most mechanics. He will get the job done, period. Mark the manager is the most low pressure salesman on the planet and is great to deal with. The rest of the guys I've dealt with less but they know and love bikes, this place oozes passion.

Other Comments:
Other shops may be bigger and have a bigger selection of goods but for my money Hardcore is the best in Edmonton. They carry Jamis, Fisher, Intense, Turner (rare in Canada), Ibis, and Knolly.

Shop Summary:
Excellent shop environment, great people who know their stuff, and there's always something to stare at longingly in there! They display a surprising amount of bikes and other products despite the small shop size, though it can get a little crowded on weekends during the spring/summer months (this is probably related to the size of the place, but it's such a great shop that I'm sure it would still be crowded if it were twice the size!). Well orgainized, parts and bikes are is displayed in solid fashion, and you never need assistance to find out basic things like prices since it's all nicely labelled for you.

Customer Service:
FANTASTIC! These guys really know their stuff, and if one of them doesn't happen to be the same style of rider as you, they don't hesitate to ask the opinion of another employee who is. When I was looking for my bike last year, I must have gone in there at least four different times and talked to someone new each time, and everyone had great knowledge of both the sport and of the products that they carried. They aren't pushy either, so if you just want to look around they won't hound you to buy stuff like at other shops I've visited. They treat you well, and usually make an effort to get to know your name and converse with you. Very personable folks at this shop. They recognize your specific needs and don't try to shift your attention to the most expensive bike on the rack, which is always a plus. Great service, and that separates this shop from the many others that I have been to.

Other Comments:
I've been to pretty much all the other shops in Edmonton, and this one was hands down the best I saw. For any kind of mountain biking, Hardcore is the place to go.

Shop Summary:
When it comes to mountain bikes in the City of Edmonton, Hardcore is *THE* place to go. (They also do road bikes, but mountain bikes are their forte.) They are not as big as some of the larger or chain stores, but what they lack in size, they make up for in service.

No other bike shop in the city can hold a candle to Hardcore when it comes to service and repair...these guys set the standard. No matter what your riding skill level, maintenance / repair skills or general expertise, the staff at Hardcore get you the info/stuff you need (without the BS thatyou sometimes get elsewhere) and the service you deserve.

The no pressure, down-home sales and a "coffee shop" friendly atmosphere also make them hard to beat.

Customer Service:
Second to none! Mark and his crew are fellow cyclists, both on and off road, and use their experience to help you any which way they can. Doesn't matter if it is a minor issue like a loose bolt, a major service issue or looking at purchasing you next ride, these guys are there to help.

If I could give them a "10" rating for technical expertise, they'd match it with their customer service.

Other Comments:
Simply the best in town, so check them out.
