Bow Cycle is a family owned business that has been in operation for nearly 50 years. Opened in 1957 by Jim and Mary Sibthorpe, Bow Cycle was first established as a small bicycle and sporting goods store in beautiful downtown Bowness, Alberta (at that time, Calgary had not yet grown to engulf the smaller outlying towns and communities). As the years passed and the business prospered, Jim and Mary''s two sons, Jim Jr. and Brian, became increasingly involved in its operation.

The brothers have now been successfully managing and growing the business for 30 years. Longtime employees John Franzky, Darrell Elliott, Kurt Christensen, Kevin Senior and Dave Leung have also joined the ownership group to add long-term stability.

A lot has changed since the store''s early days. Today, Bowness is a permanent fixture in Calgary . . . and so is Bow Cycle. The store has grown to become one of Canada''s largest and most successful bicycle retailers. Boasting almost all of the industry''s largest names under one roof, Bow Cycle continues to exceed client expectations of customer service and product quality.

While a lot has changed at Bow Cycle, a lot has stayed the same. During a radio ad in the early 1960s, Jim Sr. coined the phrase, "Bow Cycle, this is where the fun begins." From that day forward, those words have served as the blueprint for how our business is run. We truly believe that being on two wheels is fun, and we want all our customers and staff to feel the same way.

As of 2007, Bow Cycle will have been selling fun on two wheels for 50 years. Looking back at where we''ve come from and ahead to where we''re going, we''re sure that our next 50 will be just as fun-filled and amazing.

Shop Summary:
Of all the people in my family, I'm the vocal one. When it comes to customer service, I write letters for both good and bad experiences at stores, restaurants, and other businesses because I believe it makes a difference. If a company did me wrong, I think they deserve to know. And if I experienced great customer service, I want that employee recognized for his or her accomplishment.

I have been a long time customer of Bow Cycle, frequeting the store every few months and referring all my avid outdoors friends from Golden B.C.

So upon my visit last week to get a regular oil service on my bike I was suprised by the extra charge on top of what I have paid for the past few years (a deal my sales person said would be honoured for life) I was a little shocked and asked the lady at customer service why she wouldn't honour my regular service charge. Her response was "I set the prices here not our sales staff, too bad". I have always gone to Bow Cycel to get my oil changed for the great customer service and convince, "WOW" is all I could think when I was treated the way I was by the service department!

All I can do from here is write a review expressing my disappointment in a store that until recently was alway a pleasure to shop at. Take a good look at your staff Bow Cycle especially the one in the SERVICE department!!

End of the day we will not be back and will refer our friends and family elsewhere.

Before I comment it sounds this was about a motorized vehicle not a bicycle. Is that correct?

Shop Summary:
Good selection of bikes very nice staff. Shops too busy to properly assemble the bikes there putting out

Customer Service:
Well they gave me my money back so I'm happy about that. I'm not happy that I couldn't ride the bike I purchased!

Other Comments:
When I got the bike home I had to go over it with allan keys and tighten every thing my rear shock was over pressurized I was afraid it was going to burst and the front fork didn't have enough air pressure and the derailleur wasn't set properly . The second time I rode this bike it almost killed me

Shop Summary:
The Best! been shopping here for my bike needs since 1990 and will continue.

Customer Service:
Excellent customer service tonight from Kilian at check-out counter, repair shop guy (didn't catch his name- WO 113744) and staff in helmet and clothing!

Other Comments:
Fast service tonight, quick turn-around and good advice from repair staff, and great advice from Kilian .

Shop Summary:
Bow Cycle is a giant store that can meet your needs; whether its for a pair of socks, a $400 first bike, a vintage Italian Fixie, a DH monster or a 16lb road bike.

Customer Service:
Bow gets really busy, which is part of its charm. Still, even when slammed they really do try to help you out. Deals are more the norm than the exception and besides, wandering around their sprawling shop with a coffee from Cadence is a great way to kill an hour or two.

Other Comments:
I have never gone to them for repairs so I cannot speak to the ability of the mechanics. I have bought 2 bikes from Bow Cycle and a bunch of stuff over the last few years.

Shop Summary:
This is the shop that I have been going to for years. Pretty much my entire life.
