Racer Shop Summary: Performance Chandler is my LBS. I've been to every other bike shop in the Valley even thought this shop is in my backyard. I mean every bike shop. Performance is a chain of national stores, they have the best pricing of any non-internet based store I know of. They really don't have a great selection of quality bikes, but they are more of a production outfit catering to the masses. I bought my sons GT Hardtail there many years ago when the store was Supergo and they still tune it up for free - very impressive. I chose to buy my upper end Giant Reign at Cactus Bike, but only because Performance doesn't carry Giant. The most impressive thing about their customer service is how they stand behind their products. I had an old pair of sunglasses purchase over a year ago that were pretty beaten up, the rep saw them and told me to exchange them for something comparable. Not sure how many stores would do that!
I realize any service department or mechanic is capable of having an off day (like another reviewer reported), but my experience has been totally different at Performance. In my visits to Landis, South Mountain Cycles, Bike Barn, The Pig, Tempe Bike and Cactus, only South Mountain comes close to how we are treated at Performance in terms of relating to the customer regardless of skill level. Most mechanics are so self-absorbed and have such a chip on their shoulder they won't give you the time of day until you convince them you can speak their language. The mechanics at Performance have so far exceeded our expectations, we simply won't go anywhere else. I read an article from some veteran mountain biker who advised, "One of the most important things you can do is to establish a great relationship with a mechanic(s) at your local bike shop." It takes a little work, but it is so valuable. I can't tell you how valuable it is when you are on a first name basis with a staff of mechanics and they all not only know who you are, but they also know your bike. Performance Chandler is great!

Racer Shop Summary: The selection is huge. The prices are right, being there is always some sort of sale going on. The corporation stands behind their products. Customer Service: If shopping for a new bike or equipment, you should be happy with selection and price. Should you ever need service on said bike, you are in for trouble. 3 month return time on a frame warranty, what a joke. Also had a crankset and bb installed. When I picked up the bike I was told that it didn't quite shift right, but should be considered normal. Hmm... Took the bike back to my shop (I am a mechanic), and found the crank fixing bolt was about 5 full turns from being bottomed out and tightened. Normal?? Ya, ok. Other Comments: The staff is your general after school crowd making minimum wage. The service dept. is helpless. Management is horrible. Yet, if you are looking to get a good price and are in the area... Oh wait, Cactus Bike is not to far! Go there instead or order online.
