Bike Shop Owners! We have a new feature we call the Rating Badge. The Rating Badge is a small graphic image (150x58 pixels) that displays your shop's rating and number of reviews on Mtbr.com. You can put it on your website and it allows all your customers to review your shop. It also gives new customers the reviews and validation they need to buy from you. Just cut and paste the HTML code found in the Rating Badge section of your review page. More details about the Rating Badge here»
Authorized Bicycle Shop

Clean, large shop. They cary mostly Marin and Diamondback bikes, and a great selection of low-medium-end parts and equipment. There is nothing high-end in the shop. The senior mechanic "Dave" is great. He is super knowledgable, and always ready and willing to talk bikes. He has been wrenching on bikes in the same shop since the 70's and he knows what he's doing. All of the employees are more roadie-oriented, so you won't find a lot of passion about anything mountain bike related.

The owner "Mike" is very impatient, and hates working on anything that didn't come from his shop.

I needed a star nut installed in my steer tube, and he told me it would be a 24hr. turnaround!?! If Dave was there, he would have grabbed the tool mid-sentence, reached over to crank the 'Skynard, and knocked the thing home in about 10 seconds.

Another time, I asked the owner for a quote on installing a new derailer, and he asked me "is it a part you already have" in a leading type of tone, then said "bikes are designed to work as a system, so it's not a good idea to start switching around parts"!?!?!?

I guess I should actually thank him though because I have learned to do pretty much everything on my own since the next closest shop is 20 minutes away!

Bottom line:

When Dave's there alone, I'd give the shop a 7 out of 10.

If Mike's there, a 3 out of 10.

I really wanted to like this shop, but the close-mindedness coming from the top down has forced me elsewhere. They have a lot of potential, but for the time being it is just ho-hum. It is conveinent for a quick parts run and that's about it.
