Cross Country Rider Shop Summary: I was not impressed with the shop at all. I didn't see too many new mountain bikes, definitely not the model I was looking for. There were quite a few demos or used bikes, all of them coated with mud. Customer Service: Terrible sales people, met two of them. The first one looked bored, and acted quite arrogant. Asked him several questions about costs and warranty of a bike, and he kept responding," I don't know", instead of saying" Let me find out". Then the owner came over. I asked to try out a small size bike for fit, and he told me to come back in the Spring ( 5 months from now), because he doesn't have any in stock. Well, hell with have to freeze over before I come back. Other Comments: I wish I know how they can have all 5 stars reviews. No shop can have that, especially after what I went through. Also, my friend , who had gone with me to this shop , had told me ahead of time that these guys tend to be arrogant towards minorities, based on his, and is friends experience. This is true.

Weekend Warrior Shop Summary: Easy to find location, once you look it up on the map, right off 101 & Ralston. While there isn't 50 of every type of bike in the shop, it definitely appears to be the type of shop that will help you find the right bike, as opposed to a larger dealer that has more sizes/brands on the floor. Very friendly staff and the mechanics are out in the open so you can see them do work and see how clean the shop is. Customer Service: Top notch. I was immediately greeted when I walked in and it was the customer service that convinced me to drive 30miles to see these guys. It was the attention to detail and their explanation of what goes into having a bike fit properly. Why certain angles and measurements are taken and what can be done to make the bike be a) more comfortable and b) more efficient.

Cross Country Rider Shop Summary: Great store with great people.
Really good choice of bikes, parts and accessories in the store and many test bikes with the different components on to try before you buy.
Customer Service: Store personnel will take the time to talk and show you anything your interested in without any sales pressure. They are actually into mountain biking themselves so were happy just to share MTB stories. Other Comments: Next time I am in the area I will be trying to make the Wednesday night ride and try out one of their Santa Cruz test bikes.

Cross Country Rider Shop Summary: Supposedly, you can't run the small size Sram XX crank on an Ibis Mojo because of derrailleur problems. I was Passion's first customer to want this setup. They developed a solution using a slightly modified Shimano XTR derrailleur. Neither Ibis, Sram nor Shimano are aware of a fix. The bike I bought there had other first-time issues and they addressed them all. My shop summary: These guys are experts. Customer Service: Service before the sale was excellent. I needed their expertise as I wasn't up on the latest technology. My previous rig was a 1980's Klein hardtail with a steel fork. They pointed out what they really believed were the best components for my needs, though they always left it up to me to choose instead of hard-selling it.
Service after the sale was excellent. They spent extra time on issues that came up until it was right, like sealing the non-tubeless Conti Mtn King Supersonic tires so they could be run tubeless. I had no previous experience with things like suspension and disc brakes and they patiently explained it all in more detail than I could fit in my head and then told me I could come back any time and they'll explain it again. Other Comments: Great product selection, great people, and post-ride barbecues. passion.

Cross Country Rider Shop Summary: A high end shop specializing in mountain biking. Their primary interest is to get you going, and keep you going, on equipment that is exactly right for you. Everything is open, honest, and straightforward. Items are priced in round numbers, say $10 rather than the more psychologically appealing $9.99. They tend to stock a relatively small number of bikes, but they have demo bikes and arrange special demo days each season. This allows them to help you determine the correct bike for you and order it, rather than pushing what's in stock. They fit every bike they sell. When they ask "How does that feel?," they are not just asking if you like it or not. The bike has been adjusted to you for correct bicycling bio-mechanics, and they want to see if you are accustomed to riding a bike that is correctly set up.
They also create a real sense of community at the shop. The staff lead rides at local trails, and there are frequent gatherings. Customer Service: I drive past probably a dozen bike shops on my way to Passion. I selected this shop because I wanted to be lead, step by step, through my first custom built bike. I got everything I wanted and more. When they said that to help me select my new bike they wanted to see me ride, they didn't mean around the parking lot. I joined them on one of the Wednesday off-road rides. Then they measured me on my bike, checking the fit and geometry I had been riding. When we went through part selection for my new bike, I wanted to consider the super stiff and light Maverick fork. After some calculations, Charles said that we should not consider it; since I'd be putting it on a 29er and I needed an upright riding position for my bad back, the top tube was 5/8" shorter than he'd like to see. We settled on the Fox F29 fork, but he did not want to sell me the one that had been on his shelf for a few months. That one was a 100mm travel model, and he felt that given what he saw of me riding, he wanted to put me on the new 120mm version. It speaks volumes to me that he bypassed an opportunity to move a costly piece of inventory in favor of making an incremental improvement in my build. Other Comments: I have bought many expensive bikes and motorcycles over the years, and I have never had a better experience than having a custom build done at Passion. If you want to sincerely be called 'sir' each time you are addressed, go to Bicycle Outfitter. If you want a decent bike at a decent price, go to Wheel Away. If you want to be sold the absolute latest fad in equipment - whether or not it is for you - go to Trailhead. If you want the lowest price for a given set of components, buy a bike on line. If you want to be made to feel fortunate that someone paid you enough attention to read the price tag to you, there are any number of bike shops in Palo Alto to accommodate you. If, however, you want a really good bike that is just right for you, fits you correctly, and will be serviced by people who really take care of you, go straight to Passion Trail Bikes, and don't ever look back.
