Weekend Warrior Shop Summary: Noel at Knolly said to give Joe a call for a test ride on a Knolly.
My girlfriend is looking to buy her first mountain bike since she has been riding my hand-me-down Turner for several years. So I called Joe up and talked to him several times about Mandy's riding style, where we ride, etc, etc. Told him I wanted to set up a demo ride on trails since riding a 5 inch travel bike in the parking lot (local bike shops) was telling us nothing.
He set us up to try the Knolly, and in addition recommended trying the Pivot Mach 5 also. I never heard of Pivot, so I did some research and was rather impressed.
So we drove 3 hours to San Diego, talked to Joe for a couple hours while he set up the 2 bikes, adjusted the shock pressures, changed the stem out for Mandy, etc. Then we loaded the 2 bikes into our car and went for a demo. It turned out to be the perfect plan because after some time in the dirt Mandy knew without a doubt that the Pivot was the perfect bike for her! She was REALLY excited about the bike, and we finished the demo early so we could get to the shop, pick out a color, and pick out the componenet group.
Joe was very knowledgable about the bikes he carries, was very patient with us, and is definately an enthusiast!
It was a great experience! Customer Service: Awesome - see above

Weekend Warrior Shop Summary: I found this shop via this website and stopped by to talk about Specialized Mountain Bikes. I wanted a hardtail, front suspension. My budget was a bike costing under $1000.00. He tried to sell me a 29er, used by an employee, I rode and did not like it very much.
So we talked about several other bikes and I ended up ordering a Rock Hopper Comp Disc. He had the lowest price by $100.00, so I put half down as a deposit. It was a week before Xmas, so he said it would be about 2 weeks, no problem. About 2 weeks after Xmas, I hadn't heard anything, so I put a call into Joe, he wasn't there so i left a message. No return call. I ended up calling another 3 times with no return call. A month had passed and I still heard nothing, so I stopped by and had my money returned. It seemed like it had no effect on him.
Customer Service: Terrible! You would think in an economy like this, stores would be trying to get any business at all. Not this guy.

Weekend Warrior Shop Summary: This shop is great. If you're looking for something in particular, or just looking for advice, hit up one of the guys. They know their stuff. The shop is not huge, and they don't stock much if anything in my size (except of course componentry, which is mostly sizeless), but I will keep ordering parts from Joe and the guys all day long given I have the cash. I got a set of wheels built, and they arrived within a reasonable amount of time given the setup I wanted, and in awesome shape. They're bombproof! Prices were good as well. Know what you're looking for, and what you want to pay, and Joe will be able to work with you somehow... Customer Service: As stated above, the CS is good. Sometimes you have to call back to follow-up, but most times if you do call back its due to a bit of impatience (at least on my part), and a busy day (on their part). Other Comments: All the guys are awesome at the shop. Stop by to chat.

Weekend Warrior Shop Summary: Looking around his shop, it doesn't take me long to realized that Joe is passionate about cycling. Hung about are Ti road frames, Turner RFXs DHRs Nitrous's, Knolly Endorphins Delirium-Ts, Foes Flys, and a smattering of Specialized bikes. He might not carry much inventory, but what he does carry is quality: Chromag, Straitline, King, Magura, Easton carbon, Sunline, etc, and he seems to be stocking some of the harder to find bits. Customer Service: My experience with Joe and Denny has brought my business back to San Diego. They've combined the best of mail-order (prices) with the best of LBS (service); and I'm stoked to finally have a local bike shop I'm happy to support.
I'm amped to ride with these guys. I get invited on rides every time I visit.
