Bike Shop Owners! We have a new feature we call the Rating Badge. The Rating Badge is a small graphic image (150x58 pixels)
that displays your shop's rating and number of reviews on Mtbr.com. You can put it on your website and it allows all your
customers to review your shop. It also gives new customers the reviews and validation they need to buy from you. Just cut and paste the HTML
code found in the Rating Badge section of your review page. More details about the Rating Badge here»
Black Mountain Bicycles
A great, family-owned/-operated shop. A decent selection of bikes/parts with knowledgable and friendly staff. Great service department that doesn''t try to upsell. They have clothes and other gear, too.
Shop Summary: They have a lot of pricey inventory...
Customer Service: I finally can't take this shop any longer. The customer service is simply terrible. I pulled in this morning just as the older woman was opening up the door. She's always been extremely friendly to me and I just wanted to buy a simple tool so I didn't expect any problems.
I ask "Am I too early?" only to find some dude back at the service counter bellowing out "We're closed come back when we're open"...
Another time I came in to buy something only to find there was no one on the sales floor. Seeing everyone was BSing back in the service area I cautiously step in there trying to get someone's attention only to be met by the same jerk who pointed to a tape line on the floor while bellowing "Customers aren't allow back here!!"
My initial experience was no better after buying a $1300 bike in 1996 (not small change back then) I came in to buy some spokes and the woman remembered me and was going to comp me on the spokes when the manager came up and abrasively cut in and rang them up despite her protests, like he couldn't care less about the customer..
Everyone there with the exception of the older woman seem to be such insufferable PR*CKS...
Other Comments: It's a pity these guys have to take themselves soo seriously.. It's a BIKE SHOP fer Chrissakes!! Get over yourselves...
Their service dept is sub par at best as I had to came in twice to explain the failure mode to the techs and then when it was fixed it seems they missed some other obvious shortcomings that needed attention.

Customer Service: Customer service is the worst part about this shop. They do not seem to care about customers. It seems like they hate being at the shop. Why would you go to a bike shop where the employees don't even want to work there? I wouldn't.

Shop Summary: family owned bike shop that's a lot larger than it appears to be from the outside. got a decent stock of built bikes on the floor including specialized, trek, fisher, and even yeti. good selection of women specific bikes as well. specialized brand tends to be the dominant sales pitch, and prices are typical of an LBS (much higher than online, mail order) but if you're into specialized, they don't do online or mail order anyway.
Customer Service: hit or miss. if they know you're into purchasing a bike, they'll go above and beyond to make sure you try everything within your budget range. no upsell, but specialized tends to be the sales pitch and in this shop's eyes, the best bike brand out there. i've been in a few times where i was never acknowledged by any sales associate, and other times, 5 different guys will check on my browsing needs. the service dept is hit or miss also. lots of know-how and friendly, but some of the guys can be real jerks, going so far as to talk sh!t about you with their back turned. one guy in particular is super passive aggressive, always sounding helpful and belittling/condescending in the same breath
Other Comments: seems most of the better customer service comes from the older workers...guess it's all about experience.

Shop Summary: The shop is very comprehensive, well put together, and there are tons of complete bikes on the floor.
Customer Service: I've been into the shop a handful of times and always had a good experience. The customer service is the reason I bought my bike here. They were knowledgeable, friendly, and worked with me as far as what I was looking for and my budget. They didn't have the exact bike I wanted in stock, but got it there, built it up, and out the door within the day.

Shop Summary: Located in a strip mall at the corner of Mira Mesa and Black Mountain, the shop is a lot bigger than it look from the outside. It's big, clean, air conditioned, and has a large staff.
They have a large selection of bikes and accessories, and all the bikes seemed to be priced under MSRP. They do stock some components, but like most shops, they don't have everything.
Customer Service: I did let them know i wanted to purchase a bicycle as soon as i walked in, so they were very friendly as you would expect. I did ride a few models and the person explained differences between the ones i rode.
Only thing that was off was that they did not load my bicycle in my car like every other shop i've ever purchased at.
On subsequent visits, the staff seemed very friendly as i was browsing.
Other Comments: Pricing on components seemed a bit high. I asked how much a certain shock would be and i was quoted a price 40 percent above another shop.
I haven't had a any technical issues beyong your basic tune ups, so i'm going to give them a 3 since i don't know one way or another.
They seem to stock alot of Specialized products.
