Bike Shop Owners! We have a new feature we call the Rating Badge. The Rating Badge is a small graphic image (150x58 pixels) that displays your shop's rating and number of reviews on Mtbr.com. You can put it on your website and it allows all your customers to review your shop. It also gives new customers the reviews and validation they need to buy from you. Just cut and paste the HTML code found in the Rating Badge section of your review page. More details about the Rating Badge here»
Bicycle Village

What's the Bicycle Village advantage? One of your first choices, and not necessarily an easy one, will be where to shop. It can be a challenge because there are so many stores that carry bikes, from specialty retailers, to giant department stores, to backyard garage operations.

Where you buy, however, has everything to do with what you get. Unlike toasters or suitcases, bikes are shipped in boxes and they must be professionally assembled and tuned. There are many types, too, and you should never buy until you've figured out which is right for you. Having plenty of bikes to choose from and professional salespeople to answer your questions makes the selection easier. Measurements and adjustments are required to ensure the frame is the correct size and that the seat and handlebars are properly positioned. And, every new bicycle will need a minor tune-up after several weeks of use.

Bicycle Village has been selling and servicing bikes in Colorado for over 30 years. We offer the greatest selection of bicycles and merchandise, skilled and professional staff, convenient locations, and an industry leading service policy that keeps you and your new bike on the road.

Shop Summary:
they've got somewhat of a selection of bikes and accessories.

Customer Service:
I wasn't impressed with their customer service or response.
most don't know what they're doing.
lots of standing around and bs'ing

biggest gripe: lots of merchandise, but a lot of it isn't priced (accessories) (wasn't last time I was in there).

If I want to waste my time, that's one thing, but I'll be damned if I'm going to patronise a business that wastes it for me.

Shop Summary:
I will never buy from big box again. I purchased a Specialized Stumpjumper from this store. First month out blew the seals in front shock. I took it in they pumped it up and said it was fine. Next day down again took it back in and the tech hammered the plastic top seal back in with a flat head screwdriver and messed it up. They said they would order one for no charge and replace it. Rode around in the parking lot this time and it eventually went down. They shipped it in to Fox under warranty. The upper tube was scratched from a flat head screw driver and they would not warranty it, I understand that from a manufacturer. I argued with BV for weeks the manager said i must have tried to fix it myself and scratched it. The high shcool tech guy never admitted it. I was out $350.

Customer Service:
50% know what is going on.

Other Comments:
NEVER BUY FROM BV OR THIS COULD BE YOU!!!!! I recommend small mom and pop shops little more money but much better service and mechanics.

Foothills Ski and bike, Wheatridge, Golden Bike Shop, red rocks cyclery

Shop Summary:
I have not purchased a bike at BV but I have gotten a ton of service there. I feel the previous critiques here are not justified. I have had great experiences at BV or I would not have gone back. This shop does have high volume (and perhaps some growing pains) as I believe it must be difficult to keep such a large staff in line. I have had several times when they have glanced at problems without writing them up and given me great opinions on some complex matters.

Customer Service:
I think they excel here but they have lots of employees. Maybe I just know who to find?

Other Comments:
Huge selection. It's my first choice between Centennial and Denver. Adventure cycle is also quite good but pricier.

Shop Summary:
If you want to be ignored, this is the place to go. I work about 1 block from a BV but will get in the car and drive to go to any other shop.

Customer Service:
After being ignored in an empty store for 15 min. I tried to wrestle a bike off the rack by myself and somehow woke up the "sales guy". Who was wearing an all black ensamble of tight spandex, fyi. I told him I wanted to test ride and he said the bike would need to be "checked over" first. It seems they don't tune their bikes when they build them. After waiting another 10 min. I walked over the the service bay where there were 2 mechanics leaning against their work benches talking to the sales guy. The bike was leaning against the wall, untouched.
LAMEO!!! I left and vowed never to return.

Other Comments:
BV sucks. If you want better service, go to Costco. UNfortunately, there are a lot of clueless folks who respond to their HEAVY advertising and keep this sorry excuse for a bike shop in business.

Shop Summary:
This is a "big-box store" in the sense that it is large, tries to everything to every person, and has a high personnel turn-over. I don't think I've ever seen the same employee there more than twice before they disappear. However, they do offer some great deals once in awhile, especially on last year's left-over bikes on on things that don't move. Good annual tent sale too.

Customer Service:
Poor, but not terrible. The typical employee just goes through the motions with no enthusiasm or care for the customer's needs/wants. Technical expertise is hard-to-find with only 1-2 people capable of answering technical questions accurately and in an unbiased manner. Rather typical of stores that focus on only 1-2 major brands.

Other Comments:
Checkout girls need to be awakened before they will assist you. Mechanics are more than likely to respond to questions with some sort of "I don't know" answer rather than something helpful.
