Bike Shop Owners! We have a new feature we call the Rating Badge. The Rating Badge is a small graphic image (150x58 pixels) that displays your shop's rating and number of reviews on Mtbr.com. You can put it on your website and it allows all your customers to review your shop. It also gives new customers the reviews and validation they need to buy from you. Just cut and paste the HTML code found in the Rating Badge section of your review page. More details about the Rating Badge here»
Central Wheel

Central Wheel is a full service independent bicycle shop where you will find bicycles, clothing, parts and accessories for kids, commuters, recreational and professional competitors. They also carry tri-bikes and wet-suits.

About Central Wheel
Central Wheel has been servicing the greater Hartford community since 1935. Located in between the West Hartford Reservoir and the UCONN Medical Center on Route 4, you will find your local bike shop. This family business is now under a new ownership (yes, Jay is still here and is quite happy) and my name is Jeff Gelt. Stop in and say hi.

Shop Summary:
New Owners and a new vibe!!! I visited this shop a few years back (the same timeframe as the negative posters below) and it was a big disappointment.....long story short, I have friends who told me it has changed so I decided to give them another try. I am glad I did! What a difference. A cool vibe, the staff makes you feel welcomed and that they appreciate you coming in. I have visited shops in Avon, Canton, Plainville etc.....I had yet to feel genuinely apprecaited.until Center Wheel.....you owe it to yourself to give them a shot, you will be pleased you did! I bought gear and had my bike fitted.

Other Comments:
Give them a try, you will be happy you did!

Shop Summary:
I just found this shop this January and had a great experience. Very kind ,helpful, and knowledgeable shop like I'm accustomed to back home in CO. I have gone in almost every week since and have dealings with the Mgr and owner sever times, and always a pleasure. I must say though I just had a bad experience with a new employee there who was very arrogant and kind of rude. Ive never seen him there before but I guess If you deal with the other employees your all set.

Customer Service:
Great most of the time. depends on who you get. mechanics are top notch.

Other Comments:
I would ask for the Mgr or owner I forgot there names but the owner is a shorter dark haired man and mgr is a longer haired man with glasses. Both really care about cycling and taking care of the customer.

Shop Summary:
The reviews above are very old. The shop is under new ownership and it shows! The staff is friendly and much more knowledgeable than some of the other local shops I've visited recently. I have been around the bike world for over 30 years and can tell if a rider/ bike shop employee has any real knowledge or just read the latest mag and is spewing it back. These guys care about cycling and have one of the best mechanics in the state, who has worked with real pro teams as well as every other aspect of cycling.
I also noticed that several other top employees from other shops have now started working there as well
If I was you I would give them another Shot.

Customer Service:
Great customer service.

Shop Summary:
I agree, place has a wierd vibe. I dont mind it that much because its so close, but I imagine thats the only reason why they get buisness

Customer Service:
Ehh, its ok I guess, but better in most other shops

Other Comments:
Go there only if you absolutely need to. Ive ridden my bike all the way to Berlin CT, to avoid the place.

Shop Summary:
Very clean shop with neat displays, thats about it for the good part. Everything else about the place is just mediocre. Prices are high, sales crew feels very fake and at sometimes even pushy (especially Jay who for some reason is still there). They will be nice to you, but it feels like they just want your money. They have a great location, which probably brings them tons of customers, and their cockiness shows it. I would shop somewhere else. The things Ive bought there Ive regreted. Newington bike shop is in the general area, I would go there. They are not perfect, but they feel like they are more on the same page as you. Central wheel feels like it should be an Express store over at west farms or something.

Customer Service:
Havent had much experience, but what I did have, I didnt like. Once again very fancy shop, but thats about all the positive things I can say about it.

Other Comments:
Go somewhere else
