Shop Summary:
Take it for what it is worth: I had a horrible service experience at Bar Harbor Bike Shop this summer. I rented a road bike whose back hub utterly seized up, causing chain to break and rear wheel to freeze.

Upon return to shop, staff interrogated me adversarily about how the condition of the bike was my responsibility -- did i crash, did car carrier get rear-ended -- how I should have more thoroughly checked out the bike at time of rental, etc. No "sorry for renting a bike that failed; sorry for the bad experience."

Insisted I pay for rental for the day bike failed utterly and I spent two hours walking it back to civilization. (I was happy to pay for three prior days.) Combined with the aggressive attitude, not cool at all in my opinion.

Customer Service:
Poor. Adversarial. 'Service" wasn't part of the experience. Treated me like a one-time customer they'd never see again.

Other Comments:
Watch out on the quality and condition of bikes they rent!

Mine was too old or too poorly maintained to be road-worthy.

Also, not the shiny Specialized Allez they suggested on the website: rather a Trek hybrid.

Try Acadia down the road for rentals, and the shop in Southwest Harbor for purchases.

Shop Summary:
I've been riding bikes since 1954 and I've seen a lot of bike shops come and go. The Bar Harbor Bicycle Shop first entered my life as a cyclist in 1977 and it's been an essential part of my cycling experience ever since. Great selection of bikes from entry level to Lance's personal Wish List. Great selection of accessories from Got To Have thru I Can Only Dream. Great selection of cycling shoes and clothes from Bare Necessities to Best Dressed In The Peloton.

Owned and operated for nearly 30 years by Joe and Al Minutolo this is what is meant by the letters LBS. These guys love bikes, ride bikes, know bikes. Whether you are a newbie looking for advice you can trust, or a member of US Postal in need of expert level advice and service, this shop has what you need and can quickly get what you want. What more can anyone ask for?

Customer Service:
Friendly folks with the parts, information, and skills you need to max out your cycling experience.

Other Comments:
If you live in Maine this is the shop to go to. If you are visiting Acadia National Park and need bike stuff or advice this is the shop to go to. If you didn't realise what a fantastic place Acadia is for cycling and didn't bring your bike, this is the shop to rent one from. Very good selection of road and mountain bikes from entry level to maxed out!
