The Ski Rack

Ski Rack Sports is a friendly, knowledgeable shop located near the mall district of Bangor, Me. The thriving mountain bike scene coupled with the outstanding and expansive trail network offer superb feedback from riders that are breaking both themselves and gear in "the Bog." The Bog is located about a mile and a half from the shop and serves as an incredible test bed for products.
If you happen to break something, the Rack can fix it. Turnaround times for work are usually one to two days. The mechanics are both knowledgeable and friendly. In addition, they come from a variety of backgrounds in riding styles. Some ride DH, some race XC, some ride road, and some just enjoy the kinds of rides that you will likely never forget.
The Rack has a great inventory on hand serving a wide array of experience levels. If they don't have it in stock, they can anything you would like in a matter of days.
Incredibly fun group rides go out Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday morning from the shop and surrounding areas. Rider of all levels are welcome and encouraged to participate. Most of the group rides err on the side of soulful in that there is a prevailing sincere passion for the sport in all of the riders. While some shops have rides that might drop and forget you in a lactic acid induced frenzy, this is not the case with these rides. Make no mistake, group rides can be fast but you will not be left for dead!
Stop by...it is a great shop with great people.

Shop Summary:
OK, seems like some jag off's have it in for the Ski Rack. Bury the hatchet guys. Look at the other reviews. Everyone else likes the Ski Rack! Perhaps the most recent MTBR reviews are from disgruntled former employees or from strangers put up to complaining for someone else in the area who has a hair across their butt.
I've been shopping and riding out of the Ski Rack for decades. They're great guys. Always have been. The shop gets along with other area shops and, in fact, I've been referred to Ski Rack from other shops because Ski Rack is held in high regard even by the competition.
The employees at the Ski Rack don't just sit behind the counter. They ride and they ride hard. That said, it's been my experience that riders of all levels are treated equally at the Ski Rack.
Occasionally a bike mechanic in any shop is gonna have a bad day. Being a bike mechanic is not a cake walk. If you think I'm wrong, try it sometime. Demanding customers can be a pain in the butt. But, at the Ski Rack, the vast majority of the time, mechanics and counter persons bend over backwards for customers, which is why the shop has such a rich and colorful history as well as a faithful following.
Furthermore, the Ski Rack has battled for years for access to trails and has generated more local trail cutting efforts than any other group or any other shop around.
But, walk into this shop like a know-it-all-bone-head with a chip on your shoulder and you'll be sniffed out in a heartbeat. The place weeds out the insincere cuz that's the way passionate hard-core bikers are everywhere. The Ski Rack is no exception.

Shop Summary:
Everytime I go into this shop, even if I am the only one in the store, I get a feeling of uncomfortableness from the employees. They don't know *hit, and they especially don't know how to make a sale. When I went downstairs to ask a few questions about the bike they had, I couldn't get the *ags out the back room to stop there circle jerk. Use this store as a reference point, say "thank you" go home and buy it online.
BUY ONLINE!!!

Customer Service:
See above, all they care about is there stupid group ride in the city forest.

Shop Summary:
Has summer and winter sporting goods.

Customer Service:
The customer service is without a doubt the worst I have ever experienced. Every time I go I am surprised by how awful it is. Which is why I only ever go if I can't get what I'm looking for anywhere else and I don't want to wait for an online order. My experience today with their bike department is why I am writing this review. They damaged parts on my brand new bike and blamed it on me. I will never go back and would not recommend relying on them for anything other than disappointment.

Other Comments:
I am a former bike mechanic and have been working on and riding/racing for more than ten years now so I know when I'm being made a fool of. Unfortunately today, the employees of Ski Rack Sports made fools of themselves at my expense. I think the Technical Expertise Rating sums up this shop perfectly, "Inexperienced Newbs."

Has everything that you would need at a high quality bike shop and some. Along with a large selection of Santa Cruz and Cannondale bikes, mainly high-end mtb but other types as well.

Customer Service:
The guys there do a great job helping you out with whatever you need. They also do a great job of getting any work done on your bike quickly. Very knowledgable and all seem to be seasoned riders that work there.

Shop Summary:
The shop itself is full of gear, they have nearly everything that you would need right on hand, and if they do not, they know how to get ahold of it for you. Everything is laid out really well, they are also a full service ski/snowboard, and canoe kayak shop, they really cover all of their bases as far as outdoor adventure sports.

Customer Service:
Top notch, I have never had a problem with any of the people at Ski Rack sports. They are all very kind, they offer knowledge and experience, and are all great people.

Other Comments:
I dont hesitate to go to Ski Rack Sports for all of my outdoor outfitting needs. They are number one in my book.

I agree, I love the place, everytime I am in there everyone is always right there willing to help. I dont get a chance to stop in much since I live 2 hours away (damn Maine for being so big) but when I am in Bangor, Ski Rack is my favorite stop.
