Toms Bike Boutique

Average Rating:    (4.33 of 5)

Tom Gill is quite possibly the best Bike Mechanic in the State of Maine. He will go out of his way to help anyone out who shows passion for the sport of Cycling.

His new shop is located where Hilltop Ski and Bike used to be (next to Perkin's Music House), the entrance to the new shop is around back, behind Joey V's Deli.

Shop Summary:
little tiny shop off rt 202, Tom owns the bike shop and primarily does most of the work. He has small brand bikes at his shop promoting sale to the little guys. this doesn't mean they are low quality bikes, they are top of the line bikes that don't break the bank. If he doesn't have what you want he will order it or direct you to a shop that can better help you. my advice if he doesn't have what you want get what he advises for you because he knows what he's talking about.

Customer Service:
great customer service always wants to help with a smile on his face.
I stated i visit the shop every few months but that is because i live in Montana now so I an only see him when i visit but I assure you i dont ever fly because i want to bring my nike to Tom and he always gives it a great tune up and I enjoy some great company while my bike gets pumped up.

Other Comments:
I have also been around the country riding and racing my bike (witch I got from Tom) and no body else has the kind of personable service that Tom offers. Most businesses are about making money, well apparently Tom didn't go to business school because he definitely doesn't care about making money. He will do everything in his power to get you your parts for as cheap as possible and sometimes he doesn't even charge for walk in tune ups. In my experience of bringing my bike to a shop to have it tuned up very rarely do I leave 100% satisfied with the work done on my bike. However when I bring my bike to Tom I know that it will come out riding smooth and to my liking. If you want your shifting stiffer and faster he will do that for you, if you want it smoother and cleaner he can make it happen, he can even make it smooth and fast. I have never seen a shop owner put so much heart and sole in to their job. Tom is in the bike business to share his passion and love for bikes with people who have the same passion and intensity for riding. If you don't have that kind of passion I still recommend this man and his shop because he is the bomb!!!!

Shop Summary:
The shop in the state, if not New England. I have shopped in most of the big name shops in the country, shops in Moab, Fruita, Hurricane, all over CO, NV, UT and ID. Tom's is the best for getting what you need without spending an arm and a leg. Every business owner needs to make money, but Tom doesn't gouge you for parts or service. I can't count how many times he has tuned up a bike for a walk-in and not charge them a dime! Where else would that happen?

Customer Service:
Head and shoulders above the rest. He will listen to you and help you find the best bike or part to meet your needs, all within any budget you suggest.

Other Comments:
I drive two+ hours, one way, just to get my bikes serviced by Tom. Tom is the only one, other than myself, to work on my bikes. I've shipped bikes across country so he can work on them.

The best thing about Tom's is if he doesn't know something he'll tell you and he'll find out. He won't BS you or charge you for the wrong item hoping it's right. Tom is a true professional.

Shop Summary:
It's a nice looking shop. The set up appears to be friendly. You should go in expecting to spend a lot of cash or your level of customer service drops WAY off.
The owner seem to know what he is talking about.
The follow through and attention to detail is a total joke.

Customer Service:
Customer service is very poor.

Other Comments:
Here is a shop that will definitely cater to you if you are going to spend a lot of coin. Never mind if you need service or parts you wish to install on you own. I thought I had found the answer to my prayers when i found this shop. Talks a really good game but service is very very sub par. I have yet to enter this shop with out having a conversion being interrupted by a call that the shop owner promptly takes (every time) at which time he actually continues the conversation. Most times for as long as 6-7 minutes. I have actually timed it twice. I asked him to get a part. The part was ordered but was the wrong size. When I called to tell him his answer was "well I didn't even really know you needed that size".... really? I was sure to say the exact size of the part needed no less than 4 times. I dropped off a part for service. Said he would "look at it" and deiced if it was worth fixing. At the three week point still had not looked at the part. At the 4 week point was not fixed yet like he said it would be. At the 5 and a half week point the part was finally repaired. On top of all this sketchy, spotty poor customer service. He never called me to let me know the part was ready to go. If you are going to buy a bike or order expensive parts this shop is not bad. If you like to do most of the work yourself don't bother with this place. You may pay more at other shops but the service is MUCH better elsewhere. Perhaps the customer service for the "wedding singing" band is better. I sure hope so!
