Thinking of buying a new bicycle? One of your first choices, and not necessarily an easy one, will be where to shop. It can be a challenge because there are a myriad of stores that carry two-wheelers, from specialty retailers, to giant department stores, to backyard garage operations.
Where you buy, however, has everything to do with what you get. You see, bicycles aren't like toasters or suitcases. Bikes are shipped in boxes and they must be assembled and tuned.
There are many types, too, and you should never buy until you've figured out which is right for you. Measurements and adjustments are required to ensure the frame is the correct size and that the seat and handlebars are properly positioned. And, every new bicycle will need a minor tune-up after several weeks of use.
What's more, modern road and mountain bikes can travel at high speeds and carry you over demanding terrain where the machine's materials and construction get tested. A quality bicycle, carefully assembled and fit to you, will be the safest, most durable and fun bicycle to ride.
For these reasons, we strongly recommend shopping at a good specialty bicycle store in our area. Our store is owned and staffed by cycling enthusiasts who have a passion about bikes and are excited to get you riding a bike that you enjoy. Look for a store that's well respected, has friendly helpful personnel, offers a great selection, and a professional on-site repair department.

Cross Country Rider Shop Summary: These guys are in it just to get pro deals. They've got great knowledge of top end stuff. They can smell neophytes a mile a away and sell 'em all the stuff they don't want or need. They'll sell you into a new caliper instead of helping you find and order the $4 adapter. If you're an experienced rider and know exactly what you need the place is fine - more often than not I'll drive the extra 20 minutes to get to the Arcadian shop. Customer Service: Friendly enough. Usually underinterested and understaffed. I wouldn't step foot near the place on a weekend. Other Comments: They are currently under construction of a new building just south of their previous and current locations. I'm going to give them another go once they get in there, maybe with the expansion they'll grow into it. Other than that I think I've about said it all.

Racer Shop Summary: Great Bike shop to deal with. I have been riding and racing for over 20 years and I find this shop to be knowlagable and helpful. While many shops can do these two things they are also inexpensive comp. to other shops in the area. Customer Service: They won't try to sell you somthing you don't want or don't need just to make a $$$.

Weekend Warrior Shop Summary: Berkshire Bike and Blade is the best shop you will find in the area. They just moved across the street from their old location and into a new bigger and better shop. They offer many brands of bicicles including Giant, Jamis, GT, DK, and Santa Cruz. The employees are always willing to take the time to help you find the right bikes, parts, tools, pads, places to ride ect. They have many items in stock, if they don't have it they can order it and it'll be in within days. Customer Service: Berkshire Bike and Blade offers eccelent customer service to all of their customers, even people who bought their bikes from other shops. When I ask a employee at Berkshire Bike and Blade a question I know that the answer they give will be honest and truthfull. Between all of the employees their are no parts or or bikes that they don't have knowlege of or expirience with. I would give this category six chillies if I could. Other Comments: Nice people and nice bikes, Berkshire Bike and Blade.
