Bike Shop Owners! We have a new feature we call the Rating Badge. The Rating Badge is a small graphic image (150x58 pixels) that displays your shop's rating and number of reviews on Mtbr.com. You can put it on your website and it allows all your customers to review your shop. It also gives new customers the reviews and validation they need to buy from you. Just cut and paste the HTML code found in the Rating Badge section of your review page. More details about the Rating Badge here»
Great Basin Bicycles

Led by our owner, Rich, who has been supervising the Great Basin Bicycles service department for nearly sixteen years!

They take pride in their work! We employ more mechanics than most bike shops around Reno and thus we can get 98% of all repairs done in 24 hours or less. While other shops work on being cool, we emphasize quality work done in a very timely manner. We want to get you and your bike back out riding as quickly as possible.
All of our new bikes come with not only a full year of free maintenance but also with the pledge that we will get the bike back to you in the same time frame as for our standard service (Monday to Saturday, except holidays, 24 hour turn around). For our out of town customers we offer same day service by appointment. And for small repairs (flats, derailleur adjustments, etc.), whenever possible we will do them while you wait! If we need to order a special part our 24-hour commitment starts once we have your part in hand. The days of leaving your bike at a bike store service department to be worked on by a couple of 14-year-old kids in a week or two, or whenever they get around to it, are gone. Here at Great Basin Bicycles, we take service seriously!

This is why we say we are the Service Oriented Shop

We are pleased to offer seven different well known, top quality brands of bicycles for your selection – all are regularly on the "top ten" lists found in the various dealer and consumer magazines.

Four of these manufacturers offer a "full line" of bicycles, in that they make many different types of bikes (mountain, road, hybrid, cruiser, etc.). And all five companies have been in the bicycle business for decades.

To protect our customers, as well as our business, we have chosen our bike lines in part by their long-term high ranking among the approximately one hundred brands that currently exist.

The frame materials from our manufacturers include aluminum, carbon fiber, titanium, chrome-moly ("cro-mo", a type of steel alloy), and hi-tensile steel. At Great Basin Bicycles we are able to offer all the popular frame materials and many different types of bikes and a wide range of price points ($200 to over $6000) under one roof. And for intermediate to advanced riders we have become northern Nevada's source for mountain bike suspension, both front only and front and rear combined. Our brands offer over 30 different top-quality, race-proven dual suspension models, with prices starting well under $1000!
We encourage our customers to take the time to carefully check out all the various bikes we stock (we keep between 300 and 400 in the store). They each have pros and cons in terms of price, fit, comfort, weight, handling, stiffness, and componentry (shifters, brakes, wheels, etc.), and they each feel a little different on a test ride.

Shop Summary:
Great Basin Bicycles has been part of Reno and Northern Nevada Cycling for decades. Ray Miskimins, an icon of Reno area cycling for many years, could often be found in the old store location closer to downtown Reno. Rich would be running things while Ray got the glory. Ray is a great man who loves cycling, people and the local area. He and his wife have authored many books describing the trails of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding mountains. Now Rich Staley owns things and has moved to a new location in the process taking Great Basin Bicycles to a new level of integrity, service and value. Rich maintains a fantastic website that you will want to put in your favorites category!

Customer Service:
Rich and his crew can service any bike need you will have. Prices are very fair and they pledge to get most easy stuff done while you wait and the harder stuff done within 24 hours. Rich stocks tons of bikes, components, gear, and cloths. If he doesn't have it (rare), he will get it for you pronto. The most important thing to know about Rich is that he will watch out for your interests. He will not sell you something you don't need or will not be happy with. I have seen him work patiently with new cyclists to make sure they are buying the right bike, in the right size, at the right price, with the accessories that are right for them.

Other Comments:
One more thing, cycling especially mountain biking will not flourish unless quality people can represent the sport in a positive way. There is always going to be some friction between trail users, hikers, equestrians, and mountain bikers. We need great people like Rich Staley to represent cyclists. Rich is involved in various cycling organizations, clubs and activities and works hard to promote cycling in a positive light. Rich also promotes relationships with local police and youth to keep our police bike patrols operating smoothly and in teaching young people to cycle lawfully and safely.... Rich, this is for you from grateful and hopefully an anonymous customer.
