Frenchies Cycle World

Be very cautious when shopping here. I heard good things about the people that worked there so I went in, spent some time discussing what I was looking for and what I needed in a bike and what I ended up buying was nothing like what I needed. I needed a reliable, rugged, comfortable bike for commuting and they sold me a Marin that was a complete piece of garbage. I've had nothing but problems with the bike since I bought it, cables loosening spontaneously, frequent flat tires with normal wear, shifting problems that they seem unable to fix. I realized that they mounted a front derailler for a 3 gear bike but my bike only has 2 gears. They insisted that it should work fine, but it hasn't. The rear derailler also constantly misses gears, although I've had them adjust it several times.
Bottom line, be very careful shopping here, they'll tell you anything to sell you a bike and then you're stuck with it. They dont stand behind anything they sell ! I would recommend looking at bikes there, but buying somewhere else. I've owned almost a dozen bikes and never had as many problems with a "new" bike. I've also never worked with a shop that cares less about the products they sell. Their attitude is basically "once we have your money, the bike is your problem, if the bike isn't what we say it was, tough luck" I dont know how much better the service is at other shops in the area, but it cant be any worse than this place.

I agree with the last post. This shop is unorganized and has a staff that is not willing to help. On two occasions I walked out because I was just sitting around not being helped.

Shop Summary:
Looked at bikes there a few time and just recently looking for a fsr mtn bike and these guys are slimey.. They have nothing but left over models and try to play off things don't change etc.. and try to get full price.

I found a bike nice Yeti and the guy just kept telling me BS and trying to push me to buy. How retail on this bike is the same for 2008 as the model was a 2007. They had no 08's at all this year. He finally came down a few bucks but could not buy from this sleezy kid who tried to use every sales line in the book... I needed a shower when I left

Shop Summary:
after reading the previous reviews, it seems that "getting back to it's roots" was Frenchie's biggest problem... with an all-new, knowledgeable, courteous and dedicated technical staff (i found no one that was mentioned in the previous reviews, only smiles and an endless sea of acronym-laden technical knowledge, particularly by their new lead technician) the re-vamped frenchie's now offers historical, modern and family-oriented advisors to send you back out on the trail with a couple of more wrinkles in your brain and a fine-running steed under your ass, no matter what it takes, if you had a pile of garbage and brought it in there, they turned it around with relative quickness and much-improved health.

Customer Service:
no one can know every single thing about every single person, just as no one can know every single thing about every single bike ever. with this in mind, showing up to frenchie's will find you face-to-face with one of many knowlegeable people, helping you to make the decision of a lifetime. they seemed to realize what an investment my new bike was, and their attitude of 'the bike will pick you out, im just here to answer some questions' is quite pleasant as you stroll through the seemingly endless two story inventory. i think the guy said something like 2,000 bikes in stock, i'll believe it!

Other Comments:
they appear to have found an 'industry guy' who has been riding for a long time, let me tell you something about historical knowledge! this guy could tell you what drivetrain your ride had on it when it was new, why its not there anymore, and why you should try the latest thing. i was 100% satisfied with his words and passionate approach to my old shot-up klein... unfortunately, we couldnt agree on the proper way to go on a technical issue (brakes) and i walked out with a brand-new disc braked ride. he thought it was an absolute shame to hang up my old steed for something so trivial as disc brakes, but its what i came in for and its what i got.

Shop Summary:
They should not even be in business. Horrible, horrible customer service. You feel like you're in "sleezy Sammy's used car lot".
They will completely BS the daylights out of anyone, they would even try with an experienced sponsored pro. Oh yeah, they all claim to be pros too!

Customer Service:
Bar none the worst out there. Everybody I meet on the trail always says the same thing, "Stay away from Frenchies" and they seem to always have a similiar story to the ones posted here on MTBR.

Other Comments:
Two years ago they tried to sell me a 2004 Horse Hollowpoint Expert. It was a left over from the previous year. The bike had great reviews and was retailing at a variety of on-line retailers for $1,400-$1,800. Frenchies wanted $2,500.00 and would not budge on the price; even though they have a huge banner in the store saying they will not be undersold!! They told me that their bikes "Are assembled by pros for pros,,,,We do it better than anyone else". And, before I forget, the bike had a huge scratch/chip in the paint on the down tube near the crank assembly. I guess the "Pros" wrapped it with a wrench putting the crank on! Beware of a guy they call "The Polack" he's Ukrainian or Polish or something and he claims that he's a leader from the race team for Marin bikes. I think he's full of it. He gets real nasty if you don't agree with what he believes is the best bike "for you" Of course it's usually a Marin or Yeti and of course the most expensive $$$$$.
I met the owner of the store. After making a foolish deposit to hold the bike and then realizing the rip-off the owner got real nasty, didn't want to give back my deposit!

Shop Summary:
Over-priced. The bike that I wished to purchase was about $600 more expensive that it was in a store in Manhattan! I alerted the price disparity to the store clerk who thought that I was lying. They also did not discount previous year's model bikes.

The service was dismal as well. I waited about 15 minutes until someone started helping me. After about 5 minutes of conversation, the clerk went to speak to someone else before I was finished, and I had to wait another 15.
