Downhiller Shop Summary: Gerald, the owner of Racer's Edge, is well-known and respected among the freeriders, DHers and dirt jumpers in the NYC area. Whether it's sourcing a hard-to-find part, dremeling a chainguide to fit your swingarm, or slamming the fork on your dirt jumper, Gerald's got you covered.
While the shop's bike stock tends toward BMX bikes and stuff that sells in the neighborhood, they always have a solid stock of mountain bikes and a handful of freeride/dh/dj bikes, and they'll custom order and build anything you want. It's not the best store for browsing through high-end bling, but they do often have hard-to-find gems and if you know what you want, or are looking for something that's so specialized that no other shop stocks it, Gerald will probably surprise you.
There are very few bike shops in North America with the kind of deep knowledge of DH/freeride that Gerald has. Racer's Edge is a real asset to the riders of NYC. Customer Service: Very good. If you have a request from left field, talk to Gerald. He'll either explain why it's not a good idea, or find the best possible way to make it happen.
