All Star Bike Shop

Average Rating:    (3.75 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 8

A full service bike shop offering something for the kids to their grandparents. A great local shop to deal with. Honest, knowledgable, and dependable customer service. The same can be said for the other shops in Raleigh and Cary.

Shop Summary:
Good selection, crappy service from some employees, one told me I had gotten metal shavings into my bb/crank by taking my pedals off myself, what??? They need to fire that guy...

Shop Summary:
I know some of my friends swear by this place, so maybe it is me, or maybe it is my size, or whatever. The times I have been in there I felt like they were trying to sell me something. Giant is their bread and butter, but if Giant isn't working out for a particular prospective buyer, then p-$$ on specialized cause it's not where your money is made. After trying three different ocr's and a tcr, they finally seemed to remember, oh hey, we have this specialized but really it's just the same as giant's ocr. OK, well lo and behold, it fit great. But after feeling like I'd been talked down to for about an hour and worked over, as if he didn't close the sale right then and there I'd never buy from him, I finally left.

And people wonder why local bike shops are going under!

Unless you come in to some of these shops with some sort of cycling cred' (try going in 40 pounds overweight and get taken seriously, not just here, but any local shop), you may as well be something stuck to the bottom of their shoe.

Other Comments:
The bottom line is, some people swear up and down that all star is the greatest, no problem. But for me, I felt like I was just a shmo who needed to be separated from his money. I dealt directly with the owner and if that is how the owner treats me, I am sure his staff takes their cue from him and so I ended up staying on my trusty old steel bianchi. But when I do have to buy again, I'll not have all star on my list. condescending. oversimplification of the features advantages and benefits not only of the bikes but various components such as the saddle and the shimano drivetrains. Quote "Ultegra is just 105 with a nicer finish."

Agreed, I always feel like I'm being talked down to there like I have no clue what I'm talking about because I'm not some certified Mechanic. The Bicycle Chain or REI get my business now even though All Star is closer.

Other Comments:
5 Stars all the way.

Lucky thing I calmed down a bit after reading the comments that superdiver247 and greasyfatman wrote. Totally out of line and unwarranted. No further comment needed but it really ticks me off when people make comments that are totally untrue.

There is nothing untrue about my review. What I have written is a factual account of what happened. Some thing I would like to add is that I paid the cost for a set of wheels to get one. Also the bike still has the same shifting problem that it was brought in to the shop for 6 times. What makes you think my comments are "totally untrue?"
Superdiver247 (12/21/2006)
I Have delt with all star bike shops for over 20 years, i have had several buddies wrench there and several of them still wrench there, but their service has gone downhill and they are like every other bike shop when you walk in the door trying to pick your pocket! so I'm not some guy whos got a grudge against them i just am tierd of seeing people defend a shop that is sub par! if youve got money to throw around and dont care go to them and they will take very good care of you, I personally do all of my own work but have to go to a shop for supplies, chemicals ect...
