Bike Shop Owners! We have a new feature we call the Rating Badge. The Rating Badge is a small graphic image (150x58 pixels) that displays your shop's rating and number of reviews on Mtbr.com. You can put it on your website and it allows all your customers to review your shop. It also gives new customers the reviews and validation they need to buy from you. Just cut and paste the HTML code found in the Rating Badge section of your review page. More details about the Rating Badge here»
Community Cycling Center

The Community Cycling Center was founded in 1994 with a mission of building skills and fostering the personal growth of youth through community-oriented recreational and educational bicycle programs and services.
The Community Cycling Center is the largest non-profit organization in the country that uses the bicycle as a tool for teaching positive life skills to youth. Children in our programs learn bicycle safety and maintenance and earn their own bicycles, locks and helmets. We use the bicycle as a tool for learning because no child can resist the draw of a bicycle.

The Community Cycling Center provides year-round programs for low-income youth and adults and a professional retail bike shop that is open to the public and sells refurbished bicycles. Our Create a Commuter program is the first of its kind in the nation to provide full-outfitted commuter bicycles to low-income adults.

Volunteers, bicycle donations and financial contributions have made the Community Cycling Center the largest bicycle recycling organization in the US.
Bicycles and parts are donated from the individuals, institutions and supporting businesses. Churches, businesses, schools and neighborhood groups hold bike collections to help collect bikes.

Volunteers, youth and young adults in vocational programs, and staff fix up Sale Bikes and Program Bikes. Sale Bikes are then sold to the public in our shop. These bikes have a three-month warranty and repaired to work like new. Program Bikes are refurbished for children and adults to earn through our programs. Our Recycling Program reuses bike parts or recycles the parts from bicycles that are beyond repair.

Our shop sells and services bikes for the public. Volunteers, some in vocational programs, help do the repairs but all bikes are inspected by CCC's professional staff.

OUR COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT:
Sustainability, self-sufficiency, recycling/reusing, and safety are trademarks of all our programs and are central to our mission.

Most of our staff ride a bike to work. With over 30 paid staff in the shop and office, transportation is something we all have to think about daily. Over 90% of our staff commute via bike daily, proving that we walk our walk, and ride our ride!

In the office, we do our part as well by printing on used paper when possible and reducing our waste. We use an environmentally responsible printer Natural Press for the printing of our newsletter, envelopes and office stationary. Financial support from grants, community contributors, bicycle donors, volunteers and the Community Bike Shop sales support all of our programs.

Shop Summary:
We have a lot of unique bike-related resources in the Portland area, and this is one of them. More than anything they are known for taking used or donated bikes, fixing them up and donating to both kids and adults in the impoverished neighborhoods nearby. They also have other programs to promote bike usage (very helpful where many can't afford a car), and they have a large selection of high quality refurbished used bikes in the store.

Customer Service:
Great! The people in this store believe in what they do, and they know how bikes work. I've also gotten very knowledgeable assistance when selecting and test riding used bikes, and they're always thrilled to get my donations of used parts! Don't forget that this may also qualify you for a tax deduction.

Other Comments:
Although there are numerous other nonprofit bike shops in Portland (CityBikes, Bike Central, Bike Repair Collective), CCC's mission is unique, wonderful and a shining example to the rest of the country. Also, as a used bike shop they are one of the first places to look, along with CityBikes Annex and Sellwood Cycle Repair.
