Bike Shop Owners! We have a new feature we call the Rating Badge. The Rating Badge is a small graphic image (150x58 pixels)
that displays your shop's rating and number of reviews on Mtbr.com. You can put it on your website and it allows all your
customers to review your shop. It also gives new customers the reviews and validation they need to buy from you. Just cut and paste the HTML
code found in the Rating Badge section of your review page. More details about the Rating Badge here»

Shop Summary: I've been to Beans three times, all within the last couple of weeks and ended up buying a Rush 1 (which has turned out to be a totally awesome bike). Throughout the whole experience these guys were without exception great - very friendly and happy to give me advice. They also gave me a great deal.
Customer Service: Excellent
Other Comments: I've been riding MTB regularly for a couple of years, never raced (though plan to soon) and so don't know a heck of a lot about bikes, but I didn't get any sense of being treated like a "newbie".

1st- I ride everyday and have raced from NY to NC every summer since 1998. 2nd- I have over $10,000 worth of bikes in my stable (yes, at least one from Beans). 3rd- I work on my bikes as well.
That being said, I have gone into just about every bike shop in PA, DE, and NJ and gotten that "you are a newbie" attitude. Unless you go into a bike shop with "I'm a real mountain biker" tattooed on your forehead, how are the shop guys supposed to know of your superior riding abilities? In fact, I just got this attitude (treated like I didn't know what I was talking about) at the Bike Line in West Goshen. But, you know what, I didn't care. I kept a smile on my face while a kid was telling me the benefits of clipless pedals when I have been riding them since 1996. I didn't go onto this forum an blast bike line because some kid treated me like I've never been on a bike before.
The guys at Bean's have always treated me with respect. They have also respected my choices in gear. They have never tried to upsell me. In fact, they have often tried to prevent me from spending my money... attempting to send me home empty handed. An yes, I am one of those "rich" mainliners that an earlier poster made a comment about. They know I can afford it. On a related note, I have often found prices cheaper at Beans than on pricepoint, jenson, and beyondbikes websites. They aren't that expensive.
Quick story: In 1997 I benched 460lbs. Last week, I had an 18 year old "trainer" come up to me at my gym an tell me how to better my benchpress while I was doing 225. He actually had the nerve to ask me if I needed a spot with only 225 on the bar. Can you believe that? He treated me like I didn't know what I was doing. How dare he not know I benched 460. Did I tell him he was rude? No. Did I get online and blast the gym for treating me like I had never lifted before? No. I kept a smile on my face and said, "Thanks dude, but I think I have it."
Moral of the story: Check your ego at the door. Get to the know the guys there. When they get to know you, you'll see that they aren't who you make them out to be.

Shop Summary: I have been to this shop 2 times. First was bad, they treated me like I had no clue what I wanted or what I was talking about (I have been riding fo rquite some time and repair my bikes myself) Their prices were somewhat high but not too bad. Just the service I was given was absolute crap. So I thought ok it was just a bad day for these guys, but nope the 2nd time was exactly like the 1st. They really are in need of a complete turnover at this place
Customer Service: Bad, bad, bad. Nothing about this place said "we are willing to help you" they were rude and not helpful trying to upsell me every time I wanted to check something out.
Other Comments: From what I have heard about the shop tech, he is pretty good. Too bad he has to work around people like this.
Customer Service: I did have a bug up my ass, read coments.
Other Comments: Here's the deal. I have been MBiking for 15 years or so, road for shop down the road from them so I never really went to get anything from anyone else. Last year I needed a new light, HID, as you know they are not cheap. I did some reaearch on prices so I know how much I could get one for. I wanted to suport local shops so I stopped in Beans thinking I would give them the bussines if they were close by about 40 bucks or so. When I walked in they were at the back of the shop talking, wich is fine. I walked around for a while and one of the guys came up and seemed to think I was in there just to pull on his chain. I asked if they had the light and they did, so he took it out and put it on the counter. I said how much and he told me 450 dollars. Now, I can get it for 250 plus 18 dollars shipping. I asked him again and told him I could get it for that price but what could he do. He grabbed the light, put it back on the shelf and said then go get it from them and walked away. As I said, I would have gladly paid more just because I believe in suporting local shops but this was nuts. I am glad to hear there are a couple of good employees there.
