Bikes Online is located in the bike crazy town of Austin, Texas. Bikes Online began as a small shop 5 years ago selling De Rosa road bikes and providing world class laser-assisted bike fittings. Now, five years later, we've grown considerably, but we still hold onto our small shop roots. We know that our future success depends entirely on how we support our customers. Not much has changed over the years in this respect. So, how do we earn our living? Bikes Online consists of a brick-n-mortar store located in South Austin near some of the best outdoor sites in the Southwest. Within a short ride you can find some of the best singletrack around, miles of jogging trails, back packing, rock climbing, and endless miles of Hill Country roads to suit any roadies desire. The store stocks bike brands such as GT, Rocky Mountain, Schwinn, Pashley, Batavus, among others. Of course, if you found us on the web at www.BikesOnline.com, you'll be familiar with our Internet shop. Bikes Online currently has a catalog of over 25,000 unique products from over 700 bike product manufacturers. We are currently in development to expand the Store's product offerings to over 50,000 products.

Shop Summary:
I ordered a Fizik Antares 00 on a Thursday night. It was priced aggressively at $100 below msrp. I gave them the weekend to email a confirmation to me with shipping details, etc, and then called them on Monday. I emailed a request on their site, left a message, and tried calling them about 8 times over the next 2 days. When I searched for reviews of this place (of course I didn't check out reviews BEFORE ordering from them), mtbr, along with other sites, had so many bad reviews of them, it put me in a panic. After not getting any kind of response from them, I considered disputing the charge on my credit card. They emailed me a status update on Thursday saying that it is "Awaiting Shipment", and I received the saddle 2 days later. To sum it up, it took 9 days to receive my order, and was kept in the dark for 7 days about the status, but overall I did receive the item for a great price, and it is exactly what I wanted.

Customer Service:
Poor. I received no correspondence from them about my order status for 7 days. They do not pick up the phone, and don't return calls.

Other Comments:
They do have very competitive pricing on some things, just don't expect it to arrive soon or get any updates about your order.

Shop Summary:
I can't recommend strongly enough that you stay away from this place:

I can't buy Maxxis tires locally, but when I searched online, Bikes Online was advertising the size and model I wanted for substantially less than other retailers so I jumped on the deal. The payment and order confirmation went smoothly. The tires were supposed to ship in 2-4 days, which put their arrival right in the middle of my vacation. When I returned home and the tires hadn't arrived, I sent an email asking about the order status. Several days went by with no response and I sent another query, to which I got a cryptic email stating that "my order had been cancelled due to technical problems"... Sooo I asked for more information. Would the order be re-filled? would the payment be refunded? Can I re-order? Again I got no response, and I got no response to my second query several days later. Finally a third query (We're now almost a month removed from the date I ordered) elicited a response telling me that they mis-priced the tire and I could re-order at the new price. My payment still hasn't been refunded and I've had to file a dispute with the credit card company since Bikes Online has ignored that part of the order cancellation completely. Apparently returning my payment isn't as important to them as keeping their tires!

Customer Service:
This company provided very poor service, getting responses is difficult and they are generally short, cryptic, and generally didn't answer all my questions. They cancelled an order without notifying me, and never issued a refund, forcing me to file a dispute with the credit card company.

Other Comments:
I gave this company every chance to make a positive impression and they almost seemed to go out of their way to avoid providing any kind of service. I come from a family of business owners and normally wouldn't post reviews like this because I know how easy it is for things to go bad, but there were just too many problems this time out for it to be anything but a systemic issue with Bikes Online in my opinion.

Shop Summary:
I found the fork that I was looking for via Google search and they were the most competitive with reasonable reviews. I was looking for a specific product (Manitou Tower 29er) at the cheapest price. My bike is in a different shop in CA right now and it's waiting for a new fork but their prices were expensive - maybe because they have my bike captive.

Customer Service:
They definitely won repeat business from me.

There was a slight issue with sourcing the fork that I was after but Rick has been really helpful and extremely responsive and without going to the deal that they gave me I can tell you that was actually touched by his kindness. I got the fork I was looking for at a great price and great customer service - I will always now check them out first for my cycling needs.

Shop Summary:
I placed an online order. Apparently they do not stock what they sell. Five days after placing the order they still had not shipped my item, I contacted them by email and they explained the inbound order to them was delayed and they were shipping my order right then. By the end of the day, they had not marked my order as shipped, provided a tracking number or responded to my followup emails.

I requested they cancel the order and placed another order through a different company.

They did have the best price i could find ($377 vs $399 for the next best), but it's worth $22 to me to know my item is actually going to end up being shipped in a reasonable amount of time. Ultimately I guess I would be best served to find out who they order from and then order from them directly...

If I had know they didn't actually carry stock, I probably would not have ordered from them in the first place.

Customer Service:
Slow to respond, but polite. All the politeness in the world does not make up for not actually having what you are selling and shipping it in a reasonable time frame.
