Bike Shop Owners! We have a new feature we call the Rating Badge. The Rating Badge is a small graphic image (150x58 pixels) that displays your shop's rating and number of reviews on Mtbr.com. You can put it on your website and it allows all your customers to review your shop. It also gives new customers the reviews and validation they need to buy from you. Just cut and paste the HTML code found in the Rating Badge section of your review page. More details about the Rating Badge here»
Bikebeat

While the quality of the components of the bicycle is very important, many customers are unaware of how much expertise goes into the professional assembly of a new bike. Whereas the bicycles arrive at the store boxed, wrapped and partially assembled from the factory, there is much more to proper build-out than just attaching the parts. Adjustments, done assembly line style at the factory, are simply not up to BikeBeat standards. Our staff of experienced mechanics will thoroughly check each element of the bike. Very similar to our professional tune-ups, each BikeBeat build-up includes:

-Frame and fork are checked for proper alignment.
-Handlebar stem and seat post greased so they will not seize up later.
-Pedals threads are greased and pedals are firmly attached.
-Wheels are trued in a jig to evenly tension each spoke and tires inflated to the correct air pressure and properly seated on the rims.
-Brake and gear cables are pulled from their housing and greased to ensure they move smoothly. Pivot points are lubed and adjusted for proper motion.
-Bearings are adjusted in the wheel hubs, headset and bottom bracket.
-Derailleurs and brakes are aligned and adjusted.

Finally, each bike is taken for a test ride to make sure everything is up to BikeBeat standard before it's delivered to the customer.

Having a professional bicycle mechanic build up your new bike is so important for the character of the ride. Improperly adjusted wheels, derailleurs or brakes can make the ride both uncomfortable and unsafe. All BikeBeat bicycles come with the manufacturer's lifetime warranty against frame defects. In addition, we offer a free 30-day check-up and free lifetime adjustments for your bicycle performed by our experienced mechanics. Built right, we stand behind our bicycles.

Shop Summary:
Bikebeat is well furnished, has loads of gear and a full line of Trek, Gary Fisher, Klein, Lemond, Haro and other bikes. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, they ride the bikes they sell and will help you find rides around Newport News, whether road biking or mountain biking. The mechanics there are top notch and very skilled, helped me sort out a frame with a frozen bottom bracket and a bike build. Excellent work.

Customer Service:
Very good, they will help you decide what's best for you, are knowledgeable about the products they sell and their mechanics are experts.

Other Comments:
They have the latest information about rides in and around Newport News, whether you are riding road bikes or mountain bikes. They pointed me to awesome trails in nearby Williamsburg and they Saturday morning road bike rides are great too, some of Virginia's pros ride out of there every Saturday.

Although they have a nice variety of products, it'is all from Trek's stable, it would be nice if they carried more brands, but as it is now their shop is well furnished without being cluttered. I'm giving 4 chilis for overall rating because of the lack of non-Trek stuff, otherwise it's an all five chilis shop.
