Weekend Warrior Shop Summary: Bicycle Pro Shop is the best shop in DC. The shop was owned forever by Mel Pinto and run by Noel. The shop is now owned by Serge who knows more about grapes then bikes but through no fault of his own has inherited the best shop and sales staff that has ever graced a bike shop. These guys are all professionals. Noel has god only knows how much experience with bikes, he raced, he rides more miles a day then I drive. He's made pro shop what it is today with his drive, knowledge, and people skills. The other manager Tony has always gone way the hell out of the way to help me so much that I think I owe the guy, he picks my bike up at my house and he brings it back when it's done. They have a great advantage over other bike shops and can cater to high end clients by having the worst bike shop in the world next door. If you want Look pedals, go to pro shop. If you want plastic pedals go to revolution. The service guys at pro shop are hands down the best in dc. Pro shop does not have one guy who knows everything about bikes, they have two, Alex and Tom. ANY bike question I have I call those guys. A bike with great parts is not a great bike unless a skilled person puts it together and tweaks it. Tom built my bike and I have not even had one problem, not one. He is not a mechanic he is a craftsman. Alex also fixes my bike when I do evil to it and he does a great job of washing the untoward spirits off my bike. Scott, who is part time, went wizzing by me on the trail one day and saw my tire was going flat. He slowed up asked me if I pumped up my tires that morning and I said yes and then he told me the one in the back was going flat, he stopped and changed my flat letting his friends go ahead. I tried to give him money and he said that next time I drop by bring beer for the guys. The guy below me is making stuff up, how did he know how the star nut was put in? Noel would of fixed the problem if brought to his attention. How come he went to rei as opposed to the two other bike shops on the same block? He got it back in 8 hours? They won't even do that for me and I'm a huge pain in the ass. He must of been something special. Customer Service: Anything I want ordered and to me within a week.

Weekend Warrior Shop Summary: At best, this shop is inconsistent. They have done a good job on small repairs such as truing wheels. However, on major work, don't expect, much, especially if you bought your $4000 Colnago from somewhere else. Specifically, I went in today to get the steerer tube on a Colnago Street Carbon fork cut-not a hard job you say. Unfortunately, it is at Bicycle Pro Shop. I had to drop it off and got it 8 hours later and all for a 10 minute job. I went there because they are the only Colnago dealer within 200 miles but I wish I hadn't because the cut was not level, the star nut was not pushed in fully and done simply by using hammer and pin instead of the park tool designed for just such a job, and more importantly, the sales clerk (Hispanic gentleman) was quite rude to me. In sum, unless you are going to pay 2X retail prices to buy your bike from them, don't go there. I ended up going to my local REI where the Barnett Certified Tech cut the steerer correctly and properly placed the star nut where it should have been.
Also, when you are there, notice the poor inventory management and business practices. I think I have seen better laid out stores in poor country bazaars. You'll notice that much merchandise is stacked carelessly around with no proper displays. Even more, the few bikes they have are strewn with the same lack of attention to detail around the bike shop.
Customer Service: Terrible-Never going back.
The bike techs are cool stoner types who are nice but do not seem to particularly care about what they are doing. Moreover, these guys will try to charge you the max if they can on any job unless you tell them that a specific salesperson told you otherwise. If you want to haggle, don't visit Morocco, you can do it much closer at the Georgetown Bicycle Pro Shop. Other Comments: The people who shop there seem to be typical Freds with $7000+ bikes but no real drive. It's a good social place I suppose but not a real bike shop. Terrible. Now, at least you know what I did not.
Best of luck

Cross Country Rider Shop Summary: Great shop: they stock a lot of high end parts, like a good selection of Chris King headsets. You can actually walk in there and find parts you would actually buy (not Pyramid, generic, Chinese made crap) and for reasonable prices. This is by far the best shop in DC. Customer Service: Very helpful and knowledgable. I do have to mention that they lean more toward the Road bike side. Other Comments: As much as I hate Georgetown, I have to force myself to go there once and a while to go to ProShop. Great shop - annoying neighborhood. Go there in the middle of the day during the week. Trying to drive down M street on a Saturday is like getting beat with a bag of oranges.
